Past Projects
In teams, veterans in the ICTD program collaborate on a final project using local datasets from the SDSU Sage Project. Over the six week program, they analyze the data together and develop visualizations that provide community partners with key insights to better understand local challenges and opportunities.
National City Car Traffic

These visualizations are based on survey responses collected by San Diego State University (SDSU) students from residents of National City. The survey focused on understanding patterns and challenges related to car traffic, highlighting barriers and opportunities for safe, sustainable mobility throughout the city.

The insights capture community experiences with local traffic conditions and their effects on walking, biking, and other non-car transportation options. This information is being shared with the City of National City and the public to help shape a Sustainable Mobility Plan that reflects residents’ needs and priorities.
National City Drainage Systems
These visualizations are drawn from survey responses gathered by San Diego State University (SDSU) students from National City residents. The survey explored how drainage and flooding influence safe and sustainable mobility, identifying both obstacles and opportunities for walking, biking, and other non-car travel.
The data provide insights into community experiences with local infrastructure and environmental challenges. These findings are shared with the City of National City and the public to guide the development of a Sustainable Mobility Plan that is informed by resident perspectives.

National City Older Persons
These visualizations are based on survey responses collected by San Diego State University (SDSU) students from residents of National City. The survey focused on identifying barriers and opportunities for safe, sustainable mobility.
The insights captured in this dataset reflect community perspectives on non-car travel patterns and infrastructure needs. The results are being used to support the City of National City’s Sustainable Mobility Plan, ensuring future improvements are informed by the lived experiences of local residents.
National City Pedestrian & Traffic Safety, Non-Car Traffic
This dataset includes survey responses collected by SDSU students from National City residents, focused on identifying barriers and opportunities for safe, sustainable mobility, specifically related to public transportation, walking, and biking.
The data support the City of National City's efforts to develop a Sustainable Mobility Plan by providing community-informed insights into non-car traffic patterns and infrastructure needs.

National City Brownfields Inventory
This dataset contains an inventory of brownfield properties in National City, compiled by SDSU using community nominations, the City’s amortization list of nonconforming use properties, and the EPA’s ACRES Cleanups in My Community database.
It supports environmental assessment and reuse planning by providing property-level data on land use, lot size, and proximity to key community amenities such as schools, hospitals, and gas stations.
